Police Detain Abia Lawmaker Over Alleged Assault On Cab Driver

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested federal lawmaker representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State, Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, over allegations of assaulting a cab driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, during a delivery dispute in Abuja. The command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh in statement on Monday disclosed that Ikwechegh is currently detained at the Maitama Police Station, where investigators are probing the incident. According to her, the incident occurred on October 27, 2024, at a residence on Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja. The statement read further, “Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr. Abuwatseya was delivering a package to Hon. Ikwegh when a dispute arose concerning the method of delivery. During this altercation, Mr. Abuwatseya was reportedly physically assaulted.
